Privacy & responsible observation

Privacy Policy

Butterfly is designed as a premium observation and photography platform. We respect personal data, media ownership, and the sensitive nature of wildlife location data.

What we collect

During the MVP stage, Butterfly may store basic observation data such as uploaded photos, observation dates, selected taxa, notes, habitat descriptions, and geographic information provided by the user.

This information is used to create observation records, support expert review, and display public or limited gallery content according to the platform’s access and visibility rules.

Photo and media access

Original photo files are treated as protected media. Butterfly does not rely on public storage paths for original files. Media access is intended to be controlled by the backend according to ownership, membership level, and platform permissions.

Location privacy

Butterfly may store exact observation coordinates for scientific and verification purposes. However, public pages should use approximate or protected location data when needed, especially for sensitive species or private observations.

The platform is built with separate exact and public coordinate handling so that location privacy can be strengthened as the product grows.

Membership and access rights

Some features may depend on membership plans and entitlement-based permissions. This includes access to high-resolution photos, expert notes, advanced study tools, and exact location visibility where appropriate.

MVP notice

Butterfly is currently in MVP/demo development. This privacy page is a simple product-stage notice and is not a final legal policy. A complete legal privacy policy, cookie notice, and data processing policy should be prepared before a public production launch.
